February 4, 2025 - After the tragic incident that occurred with American Airlines Flight 5342, Gina Shinn from Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, NC, reached out to LiveBarn to share her vision for a memorial vigil she was organizing in memory of the lives lost. On Monday, February 3rd, between 3:35-3:40pm, over 60 LiveBarn venues participated in the memorial vigil organized by Gina to memorialize the members of the USFSA family that lost their lives. Participating figure skating clubs and hockey clubs observed a five-minute moment of silence facing the LiveBarn cameras, with memorials ranging from a few skaters bowing their heads in silence to full media productions where members of the community as well as two local hockey teams joined the ice.
Peter Montesano, manager of Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in West Hartford, said a few local coaches had connections to some of the skaters who perished in the crash. “They normally skate in Cromwell but that rink does not have LiveBarn which is a streaming rink centric service. Since we have LiveBarn and that time is a figure skating session they asked if we would help out and it was a definite yes,” he said. “The skating community is a wonderful group of people who go to competitions and are close knit and always cheer for each other."
